Build fails with 'ref?service=git-upload-pack not found'

Caused by: hudson.plugins.git.GitException: Error performing command: C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\cmd\git.exe clone --progress -o origin C:\Jenkins\workspace\directory
Command "C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\cmd\git.exe clone --progress -o origin C:\Jenkins\workspace\directory" returned status code 128: Cloning into 'C:\Jenkins\workspace\directory'...
fatal: not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server?

I have logged on to the server and in directory where the abcdefg.git repo is located, I have run 'git update-server-info'.   Build still fails.  Any ideas?  Config file update?
