Encoding problem.

Marcus Rosa Pereira
Hi, experts.

I have a little problem with my Hudson on Ubuntu (Brazilian
Portuguese) help texts encodings.
Moreover, I'm a Java developer and I'd like to start colaborate with
this project. Is it possible?
Or, at least, could anybody help me on how to properly fix the
problem I've mentioned here?

Many thanks and regards.

Sure. Would you mind being a little bit more specific about your
encoding problem?

Cheers,
Simon.

Re: Encoding problem.

Marcus Rosa Pereira
Hi.

I have a Hudson instance installed as Ubuntu package.
The help texts when clicking on the help icon on config project page, a question mark blue icon, appear with a wrong encoding; then I located where the corresponding thing would be found in the system. I found the file /help/project-config/log-rotation_pt_BR.html inside the hudson.war bundle, as an example of the help file that presents a wrong encoding text. It opens correctly with windows-1252 encoding, but the web app provides this file with encoding UTF-8.
I suppose it would only necessary to edit these files, saving them with the correct encoding UTF-8. My question is: is it right thing to do, since I don't know the structure and build steps of the project? And I would like to shared this change with the official version.

By the way, I failed on explaining that I'm a Java developer and would like to start collaborate with this project. Is it possible?

Thank you and regards.

Yes, that would be the proper way to go. As far as I can see, all HTML
files in the pt_BR locale are affected. Note: In contrast to the HTML
files that use UTF-8, .properties files use ISO-8859-1.

You can just re-encode the HTML files and commit them back into Hudson's
subversion repository. The next Hudson release will pick up your changes
automatically.

No problem, you just need an account from https://dev.java.net and post
you java.net ID on this list, asking for commit access.

Cheers,
Simon.

Re: Encoding problem.

Marcus Rosa Pereira
Hi.

I needed to stop trying figuring out this problem below, 'cause I've got so busy to do it. Now, I could go back to that problem.
But now only one text is translated: "Config" to go the job configuration page. I could find no more translated texts to Brazilian Portuguese. It's very strange, in my opinion. I haven't changed any Hudson configuration, just updating through Ubuntu's APT tool. I restarted the app, and ran "Reload Configuration from Disk" action, to try to solve it, but the problem keeps.
    Some idea, please?

Many thank you.
