After upgrading hudson from version 1.209 to 1.211 slave agents fail starting:

An example of launch string:

ssh dstk110@robin /bin/bash --login -c
"/home/dstk110/build/tools/java-1.5/bin/java -jar /home/dstk110/bin/slave.jar"

We use this tricky way in order to inherit all environment variables of the
remote account...

It seems that the quotes are non anymore correctly handled. The error we  get is:

04/28/08 10:30:15] Launching slave agent
$ ssh dstk110@robin /bin/bash --login -c
"/home/dstk110/build/tools/java-1.5/bin/java -jar /home/dstk110/bin/slave.jar"
Usage: java [-options] class [args...]
           (to execute a class)
or  java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...]
           (to execute a jar file)

where options include:
-d32          use a 32-bit data model if available

-d64          use a 64-bit data model if available
-client  to select the "client" VM
-server  to select the "server" VM
-hotspot  is a synonym for the "client" VM  [deprecated]
                  The default VM is server,
because you are running on a server-class machine.

-cp <class search path of directories and zip/jar files>
-classpath <class search path of directories and zip/jar files>
A : separated list of directories, JAR archives,
and ZIP archives to search for class files.
    -D<name>=<value>

No, the master is running on a CentOS vmware host.
With 1.211 the only working slave was the one running on win2k with cygwin sshd.

After having rollback to 1.209 all slaves are up again :-(

The latest 1.213 release does not seems to resolve the problem. Is there any
known workaround for this problem ?

Thanks in advance,
  Fulvio

I have just upgraded from 1.200 to 1.218 and one of 5 slaves stopped working.
Our master is running on Linux and the slaves are Windows XP.  All the slaves
running as a window service were fine.  The one that no longer works starts via
a batch file.  An error dialog pops up (2x) that says "Automation server can't
create object".  I upgraded Windows JS to no avail.  I was able to get the build
started by waiting for the build to start and again dismissing the dialog.  Here
is the contents of the start batch file: (the first line just sets up the
environment)
call %~dp0\etc\aries.env.bat
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\javaws -Xms128m -Xmx256m

"Automation server can't create object" is a COM error, yet neither JVM nor
Hudson uses COM at all.

Can you tell which process is showing you that error? Where does that show up?
In a message box or in console?

It is a dialog box that pops up when I run the batch file (above) from the
command line (DOS).  First I see "Java Loading" splash screen (and javaw is in
the task list). At the same time a dialog comes up (behibnd the spash) with the
title "Microsoft JScript runtime error" and the text "Automation server can't
create object".  After dismissing it 2x the "Hudson Slave Agent" dialog than
says "connected" and the Hudson master says that the slave is on-line (and the
builds work OK).

Is this a Java Swing/AWT dialog, or is this Windows native dialog box?

Does the dialog box include the stack trace?

In fact, can you take a screenshot of the dialog and send it to me?

When you see the dialog box, can you use jstack or jconsole to obtain the Java
stack trace of the process? Keep in mind that JavaWS uses two JVM processes, so
be sure to get both of them, if the dialog box happens after the 2nd JVM is
launched.

I set this up on another (Windows 2000) box and it ran fine.
So, it must have something to do with the XP box I am using.

The original bug report and the later comment from markgruener appear to be two
entirely different issues, and in both cases it doesn't seem like the problem
caused by Hudson, so closing this issue.
