[JIRA] Created: (HUDSON-6937) Git clone fails on OS X build slaves

Hudson issues mailing list
Git clone fails on OS X build slaves
------------------------------------

                 Key: HUDSON-6937
                 URL: http://issues.hudson-ci.org/browse/HUDSON-6937
             Project: Hudson
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: git
    Affects Versions: current
         Environment: OS X build slave
            Reporter: rcreswick
            Assignee: abayer

Builds on an OS X build slave fail to clone from git repositories, but the git command given in the console output works fine when issued from an ssh shell.  I think that $HOME is set, but I'm not certain of that (I checked my running env in a build shell on a project that does not use git), so I suspect that this is not the same issue as 4046: http://issues.hudson-ci.org/browse/HUDSON-4046

Here is the full console output for the OS X build:

I'm not able to reproduce this - you ran the command as the user the slave is running as, right?

Yep, I used the same user ('hudson') when working at a shell, and I replicated the command by copy-and-paste from the hudson console output (to confirm that it was able to write to the worspace directory.)

I should have mentioned versions:

I've tried 1.365 and the version from git earlier this week (on roughly July 6th, 2010).

[JIRA] Commented: (HUDSON-6937) Git clone fails on OS X build slaves

rcreswick commented on HUDSON-6937:
-----------------------------------

This was 'fixed' by providing the full path to git, but that was non-trivial because I'm using matrix builds with multiple OSes, and there is no uniform OS location on all slaves.  The hudson git plugin page indicated that this may be the problem (http://wiki.hudson-ci.org/display/HUDSON/Git+Plugin )

Here's my workaround:

Configure git to be 'installed automatically', and define an installer that is restricted to nodes with the 'osx' label.  This installer has a installation script of 'true' (to squelch the error about requiring an install script).  Finally, set the 'tool home' to '/opt/local/bin/git' (note that this is the *full path* to git, which is not really the "tool home", in my opinion.)

This seems to set the full path for osx-labeled nodes without affecting the other nodes.

rcreswick commented on HUDSON-6937:
-----------------------------------

sounds reasonable -- I think the issue was just that git needed to be configured on a per-node basis, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of direct support for that.  (if there is, it isn't obvious.)
