OutofMemory related to jdepend or findbugs or disk-usage?

rom
Hi,

We have setup a hudson with various projects (about 20) they are all scheduled to build sometime at night. We experience regularly outofmemeory problems with the builds. Most of the time this happens when the reports of findbugs or jdepend are parsed. We use tomcat6 on ubuntu 9.0.4/jdk1.6. Adding more and more memory to tomcat did not solve the problem. We ended up to Xmx1600m but it still occurs. It only take more days. It seems to me that one of the two plugins have a memory leak but I can not be sure since they need a lot of memory to parse.

First we had to disable the disk-usage plugin because it was causing a complete system failure our build pc. After reboot  we noticed the red and failed builds were caused by outofmemoryerrors.

We configured the projects to cleanup the history and not keep more then 10 builds. But this did not clear the memory, still going out of heap size. Studying the memory dumps with Eclipse Memory Analyzer told us that half our memory was being used by jdepend classes. Cannot tell if this is normal behavior. For now we can only disable the most likely candidate: jdepend.

Can someone confirm or experience similar problems?

Please see http://wiki.hudson-ci.org/display/HUDSON/I%27m+getting+OutOfMemoryError
and help us fix the problem by getting the heap dump.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we do not have a public server where you could download the dump. Would it be possible to upload 1.6G somewhere?

Allow me to recommend dropbox - you get 2GB free with signup - https://www.dropbox.com/

You can also control who has access to files, or open it up to the public, etc. It uses Amazon S3 as a backend, so it's pretty fast.
