That svn:externals problem again

Joe Kramer
Hi,

We've been using Hudson 1.65 for a long time. Great software!
Yesterday we upgraded to 1.101.
I saw here in list someone having a problem with svn:externals and
workaround is tagging external project.
We cannot do this. We have 4 external projects in svn:externals and
all of them constantly updated.

In our case hudson constantly rebulding and SVN polling log contain
multiple errors like:

Failed to parse svn info for external trunk/build
org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn: Cannot read entry for
'/home/build/.hudson/jobs/project2/workspace/trunk/build'

        at hudson.scm.SubversionSCM.pollChanges(SubversionSCM.java:472)
        at hudson.model.AbstractProject.pollSCMChanges(AbstractProject.java:339)

org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn:
'/home/build/.hudson/jobs/project1/workspace/trunk/components' is not
a working copy

        at org.tmatesoft.svn.core.internal.wc.SVNErrorManager.error(SVNErrorManager.java:49)

Is there any way to make it fixed n 1.102? (Bring back SVN Support from 1.65? :)
Or it's back to 1.65 for us?

Thank you.

Re: That svn:externals problem again

Renaud Bruyeron-2

What version of subversion is on that box ? (I mean the version of the
command line, i.e. svn --version). If I remember correctly, 1.65 still
used the command line for SVN support, and switched to svnkit (a pure
java implementation) a bit later.

Is your hudson job configured to perform 'Update' ?

It looks like something is wrong in your working copy. Can you do "ls
-al /home/build/.hudson/jobs/project1/workspace/trunk/components/.svn/"
as the user Hudson runs as and paste the output in a reply to this email?

Re: That svn:externals problem again

Nigel Magnay
I also get exactly this problem, on the sunday snapshot, on a brand new project after the 1st update.

Mine isn't configured for update.

Something is holding on to a file in the directory, so that the delete doesn't work (process explorer reports it's java.exe).

 svn --version
svn, version 1.4.2 (r22196)
   compiled Dec  4 2006, 14:31:39

After checng the "Update" checkbox it now builds correctly!

Thank you!

Any chance you can share the configuration with me?

Are you sure it's the exact same error? An SVNException during svn polling?

Re: That svn:externals problem again

Nigel Magnay
Not sure now as I've deleted the builds - it was reporting a "can't delete trunk directory" error when update wasn't checked. If I restart with update checked that problem goes away (but I'm still not getting it building anything other than the very top-level pom project - output in an earlier email)

Not sure how it's possible, but somehow Hudson is failing to catch some
messages from Maven.

Presumably the javac is failing, right?

Could you file this as an issue? I need to see what's going on.
