Trouble setting up a windows build slave.

Stuart Colville

I'm in the process of setting up a windows build slave for a
linux-based master.

An ssh server is working on the windows slave but for some reason when
the master connects and attempts to run slave.jar everything just seems
to hang endlessly waiting.

If I connect from the master manually over ssh I can see output from
slave.jar. Also if I run slave.jar locally as the user the same as
the account setup for ssh I can also see output along with a warning
about running slave.jar locally. It just doesn't connect when
the connection is initiated from the master's web interface.

The slave's launch settings are:

Launch method: "Launch slave via execution of command on the Master"
Launch command: "ssh <user>@<host> 'c:\slave\startslave.bat'"

And the startslave.bat file contains:

cd c:\slave
java -jar slave.jar

The windows edition is windows server 2008.

Please advise if there's any further information I can provide to help
diagnose the problem.

Re: Trouble setting up a windows build slave.

Sami Tikka
You could post the slave log from the master.

One thing that comes to mind: you might want to check the Windows ssh
server provides an 8-bit clean tunnel. Sometimes Windows ssh
implementations only pass 7 bits.

Alternatively, you could add the -text option to slave command line:

-text                          : encode communication with the master with
base64. Useful for running slave over 8-bit
                                  unsafe protocol like telnet
