Yes its loaded all the components speicified from load rules also,

What i see in log file is its acutally got the history from clearcase and only failed for few components mentioned in load rule, for eg, lets say i have about 8 components in load rule, the history worked for 5 of the component, and for 3 of them its giving this error.

Then the branch must not exist in those components.

It gets the branch from the stream. The stream is, in fact, a branch. If you're getting that error in some components, then the stream does not exist in those components.

RE: Re: cleartool: Error: Branch type not found

Neerenberg, Aaron
It is debatable whether this is actually an error.  What is happening is that the UCM stream for the project is associated with a global branch type (the stream is said to "guard" the branch type", as in UCM, access to the branch is controlled through the stream object.  When Hudson queries for the history of the project, what it actually does is query for the history of the branch guarded by the stream, within all components of the project.  However, the branch type will only exist within the modifiable components of the stream; for the non-modifiable components, the baseline selector is external to the project branch, and thus cannot be queried.

I think perhaps the "error" also occurs when there are no changes in a
particular branch (or at least that's what my multi-component setup
seems to produce)

I think at the end of the day, if your build is still building
correctly then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

RE: Re: Re: cleartool: Error: Branch type not found

Neerenberg, Aaron
A couple of questions:

* Are you sure that you have specified the stream type correctly (stream type @ PVOB, e.g., SaintCore_Int@\SEM_PVOB or similar?)
* When you specify the load rules for your view, how are you specifying them?  It might be that a problem with this specification is causing the lshistory command to not function correctly.
* In the advanced clearcase properties, do you have any excluded regions defined, and, if so, how do you have them defined?
* What type of scheduling are you using to run this job?  If you are using an SCM Polling trigger, what output do you see in the SCM Polling log for the project?
* What version of Hudson and what version of the ClearCase plugin are you using?
* At the beginning of the job you should see Hudson either updating or recreating the view.  Do you actually see this in your job output?
* And, finally, the fun question that's tripped me up a few times.  Are you sure there are new changes/deliveries into the stream since the last time you built?

Regards,
Aaron

Hi

Once againg thank you so much for your help on this..

Here is the breakdown

- Yes i've specified my stream correct, and hudson did create a view fromt that config. this is how i have for stream "86.2.0.0_LOCAL_STREAM@/My_Projects"
- For load rules hudson window i have it like
         VOB1
         VOB2
         VOB3
- I didn't change any thing on advanced properties
- i'm running these jobs manually so far as i'm still initial stage of setting up the projects
- Hudson 1312 and Clearcase Plugin 0.9
- Yes i see Clearcase update even i see it is runnign lshistory command and getting the details on changed files in the console output log files,
- Yes as i mentioned abouve i do see hudson running the lshistory as follows
[My_View] $ cleartool lshistory -r -since 3-jul-09.18:58:59utc+0000 -fmt '"\"%Nd\" \"%u\" \"%En\" \"%Vn\" \"%e\" \"%o\" \"%[activity]p\" \n%c\n"' -branch brtype:86.2.0.0_LOCAL_STREAM  -nco VOB1 VOB2 VOB3 VOB4 VOB5 VOB6

As you can see eventhough it lshistory found some changes, and my build also went fine its not displaying any of these in "changes" page of hudson

Like whenever i clicked recent chagnes for that particular job, its not showing any changed files atall,

Re: Re: Re: cleartool: Error: Branch type not found

Andrew Bayer
Well, the plugin just discards any lines starting with "cleartool: Error:", so that's not the problem, and the history output looks to be in the right format. Was this happening with the ClearCase plugin version 0.8.4?

Two things jump out at me:

* One thing that I notice is that the format line on your system begins with a double quote instead of a single quote.  I wonder if this might be throwing off the regular expression used to parse the change log.
* At the end of the SCM Polling, there should be a line stating that the scm poll is done, along with the duration of the SCM poll.  There should also be a line indicating whether changes were found or not.  I see neither in your output.  Here is output from similar on my server so you may compare:

Re: Re: Re: Re: cleartool: Error: Branch type not found

Andrew Bayer
Much appreciated. It's probably worth checking more recent versions of Hudson against the 0.8.4 ClearCase plugin and Hudson 1.297 against the 0.9 ClearCase plugin, as well as current Hudson against current ClearCase plugin - I don't think I mucked around with lshistory and the exec format in the ClearCase plugin, so I'm thinking this may be a core issue.

Are you sure there are new changes/deliveries into the stream since the last time you built?

but the problem is its not displaying any changes in the hudson for build.

Like whenever i clicked recent chagnes for that particular job, its not showing any changed files atall,

is anything i'm doing wrong?

RE: Re: Re: Re: Re: cleartool: Error: Branch type not found

Neerenberg, Aaron
Just for kicks, could you try delivering a trivial change to this project, and then re-executing your build?  It should have changes to find then (lshistory just tries to compare against the last build; thus, the -since argument changed to 7-jul-...)

While I think about it, what OS are you running your master on, and what OS does this job actually execute on?

Aaron

That's really strange - nothing touching the format or command line for lshistory changed in the ClearCase plugin from 0.8.4 to 0.9. I'm poking around to try to figure out what's causing that, but no luck so far.

Andrew Bayer
For what it's worth, I couldn't reproduce this with Hudson 1.308 or 1.314 and ClearCase plugin 0.9. However, my only test environments are base ClearCase, which may be the problem. Other possibilities are that my master is on Linux - I've confirmed it works with both a Windows slave and a Linux slave, though. Raghu, what OS is your Hudson server running on?

Now my changes are being shown in Hudson "Changes" page, (with hudson 1312 and clearcase 0.84)

but still i don't see the scm poll done messages

That's really strange - nothing touching the format or command line for lshistory changed in the ClearCase plugin from 0.8.4 to 0.9. I'm poking around to try to figure out what's causing that, but no luck so far.

Ok

Now i tried clearcase 0.84 with hudson 1312 as Aaron mentioned i see the first change ie format is now in single quote
